| WRaPS is the only test of phonic skills which provides an objective and reliable diagnostic assessment and takes account of changes in the relative importance of diagnostic categories as word recognition develops. WRaPS assesses children's developing word recognition and phonic skills, and pinpoints individual strengths and weaknesses in the initial stages of learning to read. Available in parallel forms A and B, and fully standardised, it can be used with pupils from 4:6 to 9:0 years. WRaPS 3 has been revised to map to the separate phases of the Primary Strategy Letters and Sounds framework. WRaPS 3 provides:
WRaPS 3 is easily administered to a full class in a single period, and is quickly scored using the diagnostic scoring keys. The test format ensures that almost all children can identify some features of spoken words in printed form, and can complete the test without experiencing failure. Using the parallel forms, WRaPS 3 can be repeated at intervals to assess progress from Reception to Year 4, and in working with older pupils with reading difficulties. In this edition, the manual and diagnostic scoring keys have been revised: the test content is unchanged.
