Graded Arithmetic-Mathematics Test

P E Vernon, with the assistance of K M Miller

The Graded Arithmetic-Mathematics Test is a standardised test for pupils aged 5 to 12. Starting from basic number knowledge, it comprises 6-8 items per year group which sample a wide range of mathematical skills, and gives a useful assessment of overall mathematical attainment.

For younger and less able pupils with reading difficulties, instructions for oral administration are provided. Older pupils can start at an age-appropriate level, omitting very easy questions and thereby reducing the time required to both administer and mark the test. There are also instructions for individual testing. Scoring is objective and straightforward: the scoring key aligns with the pupil's answers in the test. Norms are provided as mathematics ages and as standardised scores.
