Group Literacy Assessment
Frank Spooncer

This popular test reflects current concerns in focusing on literacy at the critical stage of primary/secondary transfer.
Designed to be fun and motivating to pupils, the Group Literacy Assessment is particularly suitable for screening at the beginning of Year 7 and for assessing older, special needs groups. It provides norms as standardised scores (for ages 10:6 to 12:6) and reading ages (from 7 to 14). Test scores are also linked to National Curriculum levels, giving secondary schools in England and Wales an independent check on the reading attainment of incoming pupils.
The Group Literacy Assessment provides a quick and convenient assessment of pupils' ability to combine pictorial, contextual and grammatical cues, as well as skill in noting significant details, carrying information in short-term memory and making inferential judgements. The Teacher's Manual includes detailed guidance on identifying pupils in need of help, photocopiable class record and pupil profile sheets, and practical strategies for follow-up.
