Reading Progress Tests - Stage Two

Denis Vincent, Mary Crumpler and Mike de la Mare

An innovative series of reading tests which meets the need for continuous monitoring of reading progress throughout Key Stages 1 and 2.

The Reading Progress Tests provide a standardised Literacy Baseline and six reading comprehension tests for Years 1 to 6. The tests can be used separately with selected year groups, but are most informative when used annually to provide an ongoing measure of attainment which can be related to the progress each child might be expected to make, year on year. The tests are particularly useful for identifying groups or individual children who are making slower - or better - progress than is normal.

The Reading Progress Tests are quick to administer, taking just 45-50 minutes per class. Marking is also rapid and straightforward. Attractively presented materials use text and illustration to make the tests motivating and accessible to children across a wide ability range.

Conventional standardised scores and reading ages are provided for each year group. Progress quotients make the tests particularly suitable for continuous year-on-year tracking of individual progress relative to a child's previous performance, and will help to identify a 'value-added' element in the progress that children are making.

RPT Stage Two (corresponding to Key Stage 2) provides a coherent series of reading comprehension tests for use in Years 3 to 6.

Reading Progress Tests 3-6 are group tests which assess a wide range of literal and inferential skills and reading vocabulary, using test items and text passages of varying content and length. For Years 3 to 6, the reading passages are presented via full-colour broadsheets which can be reused with separate classes and/or from one year to the next.

PLUS now with Scorer/Profiler CD-ROM (view demo) providing:
